The Michigan Wolverines are making serious moves on the recruiting trail, and the future in Ann Arbor is looking brighter by the day. On Thursday, the program landed a massive commitment from Xavier Muhammad, a four-star defensive lineman in the class of 2027. This marks the second elite pledge in just two days, following the addition of four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell.
Muhammad, who hails from South Houston, Texas, is an imposing presence at 6-foot-4 and 275 pounds. According to 247 Sports' composite rankings, he's rated as the No. 9 defensive lineman in the nation, the No. 12 player in Texas, and the No. 97 overall prospect in the country. That's blue-chip talent, plain and simple.
But Muhammad isn't just a one-sport star. He's a three-sport athlete who also shines on the basketball court—where he averaged a double-double as a sophomore—and excels in track and field. That kind of athletic versatility is a huge plus for a defensive lineman, and it's no surprise he drew interest from powerhouse programs like Notre Dame, Miami, and nearby Houston before choosing the Wolverines.
With Muhammad and Burrell now in the fold, Michigan's 2027 recruiting class is climbing the national rankings. The Wolverines currently sit at No. 21 in the country per 247 Sports, and with momentum like this, they're showing that the future of Michigan football is in very good hands.
