When it comes to developing generational talent, few know the blueprint better than Deion Sanders. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach—affectionately known as Coach Prime—has a legitimate gripe with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the sports world is starting to take notice.

At the heart of the issue is Travis Hunter, the electrifying two-way star Sanders molded from a promising freshman at Jackson State into a Heisman Trophy winner at Colorado. Last year, the Jaguars traded a massive haul to move up to the No. 2 overall pick and select Hunter. But here's the catch: Jacksonville never once reached out to Sanders to ask how to best utilize their new franchise cornerstone.

As Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio pointed out, that's a major oversight. "Deion clearly knew how to get the best out of Hunter, because Deion did," Florio wrote. "Even if the Jaguars decided to do things their own way, it's useful to know what Deion did and how Deion did it."

So why the cold shoulder? The answer might sting for Coach Prime. Some NFL circles still cling to the "Daddy Ball" narrative that surrounded Sanders during his tenure at Colorado—the perception that he gave preferential treatment to his son, Shedeur, and a select few stars. While that reputation may be unfair, it's reportedly why Jaguars head coach Liam Coen and his staff haven't sought Sanders' input.

But here's the irony: ignoring Sanders could be hurting Jacksonville's development of Hunter. During his Heisman-winning season, Hunter averaged a staggering 130 snaps per game—a workload that would be unthinkable in the NFL without a carefully managed practice schedule. That kind of durability and preparation came straight from Coach Prime's playbook.

The NFL is undeniably a different beast than the Big 12, but dismissing a coach who turned a two-way phenom into a college legend seems shortsighted. For now, Jacksonville is betting on its own way. But as Sanders knows better than anyone, sometimes the best play is to learn from the coach who wrote the manual.
