The coach has set the record straight.

Sweden's national team manager, Graham Potter, has firmly dismissed speculation that Barcelona's rising star Roony Bardghji was left off the World Cup 2026 roster due to attitude concerns—setting the record straight in a way that puts team spirit front and center.

The controversy began when Swedish outlet Aftonbladet suggested that the 19-year-old winger's omission might be linked to him being seen "sitting there in a bad mood" after Sweden secured their World Cup qualification, reportedly frustrated by his lack of playing time. But Potter, speaking to SVT Sports, wasted no time in shutting down those claims.

"To be honest, it's the first time I've heard of that. It's news to me. It had no influence whatsoever on my thinking. I think it's slightly unfair on Roony actually," Potter said, visibly pushing back against the narrative. "I didn't hear anything like that at all. People are putting two and two together and making six."

The England-born coach, who took over the Swedish national team in 2024, emphasized that every player in his camp has shown nothing but professionalism. "All the players we've worked with have been brilliant. There are no problems, no character issues, no personality issues. Players want to play, of course they do, and they are all disappointed when they don't," he explained.

Potter highlighted that the squad's success during the qualifying campaign was built on collective support. "One of the reasons we were so successful in the last camp was everyone's attitude to support the team. I tried to explain my rationale for my selection—it certainly wasn't anything about personality or character. Not at all."

For a young talent like Bardghji—who has been turning heads at Barcelona with his electrifying pace and creativity—missing out on a World Cup spot is already a tough pill to swallow. It's refreshing to see Potter step up to defend his player's character, especially when the rumor mill threatens to overshadow what should be a moment of national pride. As Sweden gears up for the tournament, this clarity helps keep the focus where it belongs: on the pitch, not on baseless whispers.
