Dragons take on Zebre in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup with the help of qualified lawyer Rodrigo Martinez in the front row.

While most rugby players are focused on the rulebook on the field, Dragons prop Rodrigo Martinez has spent the last six years mastering a different set of laws. The 27-year-old Argentinian international is not just a force in the front row; he's also a newly qualified lawyer, having recently completed his degree while navigating a demanding season of professional rugby.

Martinez's discipline off the pitch has translated into success on it. He was a key part of the Dragons' starting lineup that pulled off a stunning Challenge Cup victory over Stade Francais in Paris, a career highlight that secured a quarter-final clash against Zebre this Saturday. This European run adds an exciting chapter to what has been a monumental personal year for the loose-head, who has balanced 15 appearances for the region with becoming a father and finishing his legal studies.

"I'm now a qualified lawyer after almost six years," Martinez explained. "It was online, and I tried to do at least one hour a day and use my days off. I just built the habit." This dedication provided a crucial focus during a challenging period when he was temporarily separated from his newborn son, Otto, who was born in Argentina last September. "I missed his first two months, and that was tough, but now they are over here," he said. "I am struggling a bit with the sleep, but everything else is unbelievable."

For now, the three-times capped Puma is fully committed to his rugby career in Wales, where he has become a reliable and excellent addition to the Dragons' squad, playing in 41 of a possible 62 games. His immediate goal is clear: to use his formidable scrummaging skills to "bend the law" and help Dragons continue their unexpected and thrilling hunt for European glory. The future may hold a career in law, but this weekend, all his legal expertise is directed toward conquering Zebre and advancing in the Challenge Cup.
