The District 3 Track and Field Championships delivered a thrilling Saturday at Shippensburg University, with athletes from across the region leaving it all on the track. From sprint showdowns to distance battles, the finals showcased incredible performances that will have fans talking all season.
In the Girls Class 2A 100-meter dash, Cheynne Elby of James Buchanan blazed to victory with a time of 12.19 seconds, leaving the competition in her wake. Lilah Gilmore of Schuylkill Valley secured second at 12.45, while Trinity’s Nora Scanish rounded out the top three with a 12.47 finish. The event was a testament to the depth of talent in this class, with Dulce Lytle (Wyomissing, 12.67) and Natalie Engle (Oley Valley, 12.89) also posting impressive times.
The hurdles brought their own drama, as Wyomissing’s Lily Paolini dominated the 100-meter hurdles with a stellar 14.48. Teammate Bre’Yana Durham followed closely in 14.74, giving Wyomissing a powerful 1-2 punch. Distance runners shone in the 1600 meters, where Pequea Valley’s Reagan Gates crossed the line first in 5:11.65. Julianna Gourley of Oley Valley pushed hard for second at 5:18.70, while Tulpehocken’s Mavis Coco held on for third in 5:19.46. The race was a masterclass in pacing and endurance.
Relays added a team dynamic to the day’s excitement. In the 4x100, Wyomissing’s squad of Bre’Yana Durham, Lily Paolini, Precious Johnson-Agiri, and Dulce Lytle clocked a winning 49.34, ahead of Trinity (49.97) and James Buchanan (50.43). The 4x800 saw Oley Valley take top honors with a time of 9:43.64, powered by Marli Laity, Cathryn Fegely, Julianna Gourley, and Jillian Rogers.
In Class 3A girls’ action, Conestoga Valley’s Brylee Miller sprinted to a 100-meter win in 11.79, with JP McCaskey’s Ella Petrosky close behind at 11.96. Central York’s Ajaya Jordan took third in 12.10. The 100-meter hurdles belonged to Spring Grove’s Ella Bahn, who dominated with a 13.91, while Gov. Mifflin’s Bridget Martin secured second at 14.45.
The 4x800 relay in Class 3A was a nail-biter, with JP McCaskey taking the win in 9:17.30. Dallastown followed at 9:23.88, and Carlisle rounded out the top three at 9:27.31. It was a day of teamwork and tenacity across all events.
On the boys’ side, Trinity’s Isaiah Chase blitzed the Class 2A 100-meter dash in 10.92, edging out Lancaster Catholic’s Brandon Way (11.06) and Wyomissing’s Owen Gibney (11.07). The energy was electric as these young stars made their mark.
