A blast from the past is coming back to Houston, Texas for the 2026 Houston Texans season and beyond.

Get ready to hear a familiar roar in Houston. The Texans are officially bringing back the Reliant Stadium name for the 2026 NFL season and beyond, marking a nostalgic return for a venue that's been at the heart of the franchise since its inception.

After a 12-year run as NRG Stadium, the iconic venue will revert to its original name, Reliant Stadium, starting with the Texans' 25th-anniversary season this September. The change, approved by the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, reconnects the team with a foundational partner and a name deeply woven into Houston's sports identity.

"Houston is Reliant’s home, and a name Texans know and trust," said Brad Bentley of NRG Consumer and Reliant. He emphasized the stadium's legacy, from hosting the Texans' first game and two Super Bowls to countless RODEOHOUSTON® performances, stating, "Fans have told us what this place means to them... Reliant Stadium is back."

This move closes the loop on a major naming rights deal. Reliant Energy initially secured the stadium's name for 30 years in 2002 with a landmark $300 million agreement. Following NRG Energy's acquisition of Reliant's retail business in 2009, the venue was rebranded to NRG Stadium in 2014, a title it has held for over a decade.

For the Texans organization, this is a homecoming. "As a founding partner of the team, Reliant has been a part of our Houston Texans family from the very beginning," said Texans President Mike Tomon. He highlighted the excitement about celebrating 25 seasons "back where it all began" and praised the partnership's community impact, including the long-running Scholarships for Champions Program.

For fans, especially those who remember the early days of Texans football, this announcement is a powerful nod to tradition. It signals a renewed chapter where history meets the future, all under a roof that has witnessed the growth of an NFL franchise and a city's passionate fanbase. The energy in Houston just got a classic name back.
