The Alabama Crimson Tide is on fire, storming into the SEC Tournament Finals after a dominant 9-1 victory over the Florida Gators in just five innings. It was a game of early drama and explosive offense, proving once again why Alabama is a force to be reckoned with on the diamond.
Things started a bit shaky for Alabama starter Vic Moten, who walked the first two batters she faced. The ball-strike calls raised a few eyebrows, but Moten quickly found her groove, striking out the next three Gators swinging to escape the inning unscathed. Florida head coach Tim Walton made a surprising call by starting Leah Stevens, a pitcher usually reserved for relief duties, but the gamble didn't pay off. Alabama loaded the bases, though three strikeouts temporarily saved the Gators.
The top of the second inning saw a repeat performance from Moten—another pair of walks to start the frame—but once again, she battled back to keep Florida off the board. Then, in the bottom of the inning, the Tide's offense erupted. Ambrey Taylor launched a rocket off the scoreboard to give Alabama a 1-0 lead. The floodgates opened from there: a hit-by-pitch, a pair of walks, an RBI single from Ana Roman, and a two-run single from Marlie Giles pushed the lead to 4-0.
Florida managed to scratch across a run in the third inning but left two runners stranded. Alabama answered right back, with Kristen White singling and scoring on a Jena Young double. After a Brooke Wells walk, Alexis Pupillo singled to make it 6-1. The Tide kept the pressure on, and in the bottom of the fifth, they closed it out in style. Young singled, Pupillo doubled her in, Roman walked, and Audrey Vandagriff doubled home another run. Taylor sealed the win with a walk-off RBI single, sending Alabama to the championship game.
Moten went the distance, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out seven. The seven walks were a concern, but the inconsistent strike zone didn't help. Florida's strategy of intentionally walking Brooke Wells three times backfired, as Pupillo made them pay, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Kenleigh Cahalan added a single and a foul out in a solid all-around performance.
With this win, Alabama proves they have the pitching, power, and poise to take home the title. Next up: a showdown with Texas in the SEC Tournament Finals. Gear up for the big game and show your Tide pride with the latest Alabama softball apparel from our collection!
