Centerville is making a strong push for multiple conference titles this spring, and Monday's action brought the Elks one step closer to championship glory across several sports.
On the baseball diamond, Centerville clinched the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) title outright with a gritty 3-2 victory over Beavercreek. Starter Luke Maciejewski was the star of the show, going the distance and fanning nine batters to keep the Beavers at bay. Lucas Clark provided the offensive spark with three hits and an RBI, while Ryan Muchmore drove in another run. The win improved the Elks to an impressive 17-2 overall and a perfect 12-0 in conference play—a testament to their dominance this season.
In boys lacrosse, Centerville handed Beavercreek its first conference loss of the year with a decisive 18-8 victory. The Elks can now claim the GWOC title outright if they defeat Northmont next week, setting up a pivotal showdown that fans won't want to miss.
The softball team also kept its championship hopes alive, defeating Beavercreek 11-7 to move to 18-6 overall and 11-1 in conference play. Caitlyn Belcher had a monster day at the plate, doubling and homering on a four-hit performance while driving in five runs. Lillie Hopf chipped in with three hits and two RBIs. The Elks now face a crucial two-game series against Springboro—starting Wednesday at Springboro and continuing Friday at home—that will help decide the GWOC champion.
Centerville's boys tennis team has already secured a split of the GWOC title and can take it outright with a win at Springboro on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the boys volleyball squad holds a perfect 6-0 record in conference play with two games remaining, against Northmont on Tuesday and at Beavercreek on Thursday. The girls lacrosse team trails Springboro in the standings but remains in contention with two conference games left on the schedule.
Elsewhere around the league, Springboro routed Wayne 13-1 behind Jacob Rhinehart's 2-for-4 performance with a double and five RBIs, while Dylan Brabston tossed six innings for the win. Fairmont topped Springfield 8-1 thanks to Joey Lanning's seven strikeouts over five innings and Jackson Furr's two triples and three RBIs. Troy extended its winning streak to nine games with a 12-2 victory over Greenville, improving to 17-1 overall. Butler crushed Piqua 28-0 behind Koby Dues' two doubles and five RBIs, and Xenia blanked West Carrollton 2-0 as Braylon Williamson threw a complete-game shutout on just 63 pitches to clinch at least a share of the MVL Valley division title. Finally, Ben Logan edged Indian Lake 2-0 as Jacob Hawley tossed seven shutout innings with six strikeouts.
