The Southland softball team showed true grit Monday, holding on for an 8-6 victory at Wabasha-Kellogg despite a shaky seventh inning. Grace Kresbach powered the Rebels (10-1 overall) with a home run and three RBIs, providing the offensive spark needed to overcome a late-game surge from the Falcons (3-8).
Southland seemed in control heading into the final frame, but defensive miscues nearly cost them. Four errors allowed Wabasha-Kellogg to plate six runs in the top of the seventh, turning a comfortable lead into a nail-biter. However, the Rebels' early offensive output proved just enough to secure the win.
Laney Weis delivered a dominant performance in the circle, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while allowing only two earned runs on eight hits and three walks. Her ability to work out of jams kept Southland in command for most of the game.
At the plate, Kiley Koenigs was a force, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ava Golombowski also contributed clutch hitting, driving in three runs on a 1-for-3 day. Kresbach's homer highlighted a 2-for-4 effort that included a walk and a run scored.
With the win, Southland improves to 10-1, continuing their strong season. For a team that thrives on both power hitting and pitching depth, this game was a testament to their resilience—even when things got tense in the final inning.
