The New York Giants walked away from the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh with one of the most impressive rookie classes in the league, earning an "A" grade from Pro Football Focus. But even a top-tier haul comes with its question marks—and PFF identified three picks where the Giants may have reached.
It all started with a bang. With the fifth overall pick, New York landed Ohio State superstar linebacker Arvell Reese, widely considered the best player at his position. They followed that up at No. 10 by snagging Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, another top-ranked talent. Landing two of the draft's elite prospects within the first 10 picks set a strong foundation for the class.
The Giants kept the momentum rolling in the second round, selecting Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood with the 37th overall pick to shore up their secondary depth. But the real action came on Day 2. After Hood, New York traded into the third round to grab Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields—a move that PFF believes was a bit of a stretch.
With just three picks remaining, the Giants wrapped up their draft in the sixth round, selecting Auburn defensive tackle Bobby Jamison-Travis, Illinois offensive tackle J.C. Davis, and BYU linebacker Jack Kelly. While these later picks add valuable depth, PFF flagged both Fields and Jamison-Travis as reaches, suggesting the team may have overvalued them relative to where they were projected to go.
Still, the overall grade speaks volumes. The Giants' 2026 rookie class is one of the highest-ranked in the NFL, and if their top picks live up to the hype, these "reaches" could quickly become steals. For a team looking to build for the future, New York's draft board might just be a blueprint for success.
