Big news out of Blacksburg: Virginia Tech football has landed a major commitment from one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class. Peter Bourque, a four-star signal-caller from Massachusetts, announced his decision to join the Hokies on Thursday, choosing them over powerhouse programs Georgia and Penn State.
This commitment marks a significant early victory for first-year head coach James Franklin, who is working to rebuild the program in his image. Bourque is currently ranked as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2027 class by 247Sports Composite Rankings, and he's listed as the No. 7 quarterback nationally and the top player out of Massachusetts. For Hokies fans eager to see a resurgence, this is a promising sign of what's to come.
Bourque's on-field resume is impressive. As a junior at Tabor Academy, he was named the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts after leading his team to a perfect 9-0 record and a NEPSAC John Papa Bowl Title. He showcased his dual-threat ability by throwing for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 688 yards and 15 touchdowns on 80 carries. He also gained early exposure on a national stage, participating in the Navy All-American Bowl as an underclassman, where he completed 3-of-4 passes for 21 yards and added a four-yard rush.
Bourque's pledge is a game-changer for Virginia Tech's 2027 recruiting class. Before his commitment, 247Sports ranked the Hokies' class as the 17th best in the country. Their previous highest-rated recruit was four-star defensive lineman Joseph Buchanan from McDonogh School in Maryland, who sits at No. 178 overall. Bourque's addition not only boosts the class ranking but also signals that Franklin can attract elite talent to Blacksburg—a key ingredient for any successful rebuild.
