In a stunning reversal of fortune, No. 1 Florida State softball erased the memory of a regular-season sweep by No. 4 Stanford with a dominant 9-0 victory in the ACC Semifinals, punching their ticket to the championship game with a performance that was as clinical as it was electric.
From the very first pitch, the Seminoles were in control. Freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic set the tone in the circle, allowing just a single base runner in the opening frame—a walk that was quickly erased by a strikeout and a groundout. It was the kind of poised start that tells your opponent: today is not your day.
Florida State's bats wasted no time backing her up. In the bottom of the first, the top of the lineup drew back-to-back walks off Stanford starter Alyssa Houston. With two on, Ashtyn Danley laced a double to bring home the game's first run. One pitch later, a wild pitch made it 2-0. Still with no outs and a runner on third, Anna Hinde reached on a fielder's choice that forced Stanford to try for the out at home. A throwing error allowed Danley to score, and just like that, it was 3-0.
The Noles weren't done. Singles from Makenna Sturgis and Isa Torres put runners in scoring position, and a groundout from Jaysoni Beachum pushed the lead further. Danley then delivered her second RBI single of the inning, making it 5-0 before the crowd could catch its breath.
After a clean 1-2-3 inning from Dimitrijevic, Florida State went back to work in the fourth. Sturgis singled off reliever Anna Brewer, and back-to-back singles followed, with Beachum picking up another RBI. At 6-0, Stanford turned to Zoe Prystajko, but the change didn't slow the Seminoles. Danley extended her hitting streak with another RBI double, and a sacrifice fly followed by a fielder's choice pushed the score to 9-0—putting the Seminoles firmly in run-rule territory.
Dimitrijevic's day ended after four shutout innings, and Danley took over in the circle for the final frame. She allowed a double and a hit-by-pitch to put two runners on, but needed just one pitch to slam the door and seal the mercy-rule victory. With this complete performance—dominant pitching, relentless hitting, and a defense that never wavered—Florida State heads to the ACC Championship looking every bit like a team on a mission.
