Nashville SC is hitting the reset button.
After a heartbreaking exit from the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals, the Boys in Gold are wasting no time refocusing on their MLS campaign. But their return to league action didn't start the way anyone in Music City hoped.
Facing D.C. United on May 9 at Geodis Park, Nashville found themselves in unfamiliar territory—down 2-0 at halftime. It was the first time all season the club had trailed by multiple goals, and head coach B.J. Callaghan didn't hold back his frustration.
"The entire first half was unlike ourselves," Callaghan said. "It wasn't how we prepared and how we planned, and I would say the first half was below our standard and unacceptable."
Whether it was emotional fatigue from the Champions Cup exit, a depleted lineup, or simply a stronger opponent on the night, the first 45 minutes left much to be desired. But true to their resilient nature, Nashville showed their fighting spirit in the second half.
Substitute Warren Madrigal emerged as the hero, scoring two late goals to salvage a 2-2 draw. The comeback, especially the final 20 minutes, gave Callaghan and the squad something to build on as they look to climb the standings.
With a 7-1-3 record and 24 points, Nashville remains in strong position. Now it's about shaking off the Champions Cup disappointment and getting back to the identity that made them one of MLS's toughest teams to beat.
