Last week, Alpha Omega Academy's track and field team made a powerful statement at the TAPPS 3A South Regional Meet in San Antonio, sending an impressive 10-event contingent to the upcoming state finals. The Lions are roaring with confidence as they prepare to compete at Waco Midway High School on May 8-9.
The team showcased two regional champions who stole the spotlight. Wyatt Plake dominated the 110M hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.27 seconds, while Hudson Ramey soared to victory in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 6'2". These standout performances set the tone for what promises to be an exciting state meet.
Plake isn't done yet—he also punched his ticket to state in the 300M hurdles (42.34 seconds) and the triple jump (40'4.75"), proving he's a versatile threat. On the boys' side, Kaleb Neugebauer added to the momentum with a silver medal in the shot put, launching a personal-best 44'4".
The Lady Lions are equally primed for success. The 4x100M relay team—Eva Nino, Peyton Nichols, Madison Tran, and Hannah Meers—secured a third-place finish with a time of 53.73 seconds and will race again at state. Nichols is a double threat, qualifying in the 200M dash (27.92 seconds) and the long jump (14'8.25"), both bronze-medal efforts. Nicole Valles will compete in the discus after a fourth-place throw of 90'8", while Trinittee Franklin rounds out the qualifiers with a 30'8" shot put.
With two regional champions and a deep roster of qualifiers, Alpha Omega Academy is poised to make noise at the TAPPS 3A State Championship. Whether you're cheering from the stands or gearing up in your favorite Lions gear, this is a team to watch.
