The 5A boys volleyball state tournament delivered an action-packed day at UVU on Wednesday, as the top four seeds—Wasatch, Bountiful, Maple Mountain, and Olympus—each punched their tickets to Thursday's semifinals. For fans of high-stakes volleyball, it was a showcase of resilience, power, and the kind of heart that defines championship-caliber teams.

Two-time defending state champion Maple Mountain, seeded No. 3, looked every bit the title contender as it cruised past No. 11 seed Spanish Fork in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-21). The Golden Eagles are now just two wins away from a three-peat, and they'll face off in Thursday's 10 a.m. semifinal with the poise of a team that's been here before.

"I think my team is just so hungry for another opportunity," said Maple Mountain coach Napolean Galang. "We preach family in our program, and at any point, we put in multiple different people from our bench who have been able to score points for us. It's been a whole team effort outside of our starting six, and that's been a huge factor in our success."

Galang singled out setter Taft Hillman for orchestrating the offense and getting everyone involved, while senior opposite Sol Krommenhoek dominated at the net. "He's our x-factor, just getting a ton of points," Galang added. Defensively, sophomore libero McKay Beattie stepped up in both matches, emerging as one of the state's top defenders—a key asset for any team chasing a title.

Over on the adjacent court, No. 2 seed Bountiful found itself in a fight for survival. After a center line violation cost them the second set, the Redhawks trailed No. 10 seed Viewmont 2-0, staring down a major upset. But Bountiful coach Sarah Chism had seen this before: her team pulled off a reverse sweep against Olympus in the regular-season finale, and she trusted them to do it again.

And they did. Bountiful rallied with grit and precision, taking the third set 25-23 and then outlasting Viewmont in a marathon fourth set, 30-28, to force a decisive fifth. The Redhawks' comeback kept their semifinal hopes alive, proving that experience and composure under pressure are just as important as raw talent.

For volleyball fans, Wednesday's action was a reminder that every point matters—and that the right gear, from supportive knee pads to breathable jerseys, can make all the difference when the match goes the distance. As these four teams prepare for Thursday's semis, one thing is clear: the road to a championship is paved with heart, hustle, and the kind of teamwork that turns a good team into a great one.
