Clemson football has made another powerful move to shore up its defensive line, landing a commitment from Texas State transfer Devarrick Woods. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle announced his decision Tuesday, choosing the Tigers over a host of other suitors including Florida State, Florida, NC State, and Colorado.

Woods brings solid experience to Death Valley, having appeared in 11 games for Texas State last season where he recorded 16 tackles and one sack. His performance earned him a 74.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus across 177 snaps in 2025, with his tackling grade standing out at an impressive 80.9. He also posted marks of 70.8 against the run and 66.3 as a pass rusher.

Before his time with the Bobcats, Woods built an impressive resume at Hinds Community College in Mississippi. He earned first-team All-MACCC honors in 2024 after a standout season that included 43 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, and three pass breakups in just nine games. The previous year, he added 23 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks.

The timing of Woods' arrival is crucial for Clemson's depth at defensive tackle. The Tigers recently lost West Georgia transfer Kourtney Kelly to an ACL injury earlier this spring, making Woods' addition a key piece in rebuilding the interior defensive line.

Woods becomes the 11th transfer portal addition for Clemson since the end of last season, and notably, 10 of those have been on the defensive side of the ball. He's also the fourth defensive tackle the Tigers have brought in through the portal, with junior college standout Andy Burburija expected to join the squad this summer as well.

For Clemson fans, this move signals a clear focus on building a dominant defensive front for the upcoming season. With Week 1 matchup against LSU already generating buzz, Woods could be a key contributor in the trenches when the Tigers take the field.
