In a move that feels like destiny, Charles Woodson Jr. has officially committed to the University of Michigan football program. The legacy recruit, a defensive back from Lake Nona High School in Florida, announced his decision, adding a thrilling chapter to the storied Wolverines' recruiting class of 2027.
For fans of the Maize and Blue, the name carries immense weight. Woodson Jr. is the son of the legendary Charles Woodson, the 1997 Heisman Trophy winner and a cornerstone of Michigan's national championship legacy. The elder Woodson now serves as the defensive coordinator at Lake Nona, making this commitment a family affair steeped in Wolverine tradition.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, Woodson Jr. is rated as a three-star prospect by the Rivals Industry Rankings. But his offer list tells a different story, with powerhouse programs like Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Kentucky all vying for his talents. It was Michigan, however, that secured his pledge—a testament to the relentless efforts of the new coaching staff.
Initially offered under the previous regime, the current staff—led by head coach Kyle Whittingham—made Woodson Jr. a top priority. In January alone, five coaches visited his school to solidify the relationship. "It was a good first impression," Woodson Jr. recalled, and the impression clearly stuck.
On the field, Woodson Jr. is a playmaker. As a junior, he racked up 73 tackles, two interceptions, and eight pass breakups. Projected to play free safety at Michigan, he'll bring a blend of instinct and athleticism to a secondary already bolstered by the commitment of Maxwell Miles, a bigger safety from Las Vegas.
This commitment adds to a hot streak for Michigan's 2027 class. With Woodson Jr. on board, the Wolverines now have 10 pledges, including recent additions of four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell and four-star Xavier Muhammad. The momentum is building, and for fans looking to gear up for the next generation of Wolverine stars, this is a name to watch—and wear with pride.
