Some legacies are written in the stars—and for Michigan football, one of its most iconic names is back in the fold. Charles Woodson Jr., the son of Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, has officially committed to the Wolverines. The announcement came on Friday, May 15, as the younger Woodson chose to carry on his father's legendary tradition in Ann Arbor.
Rated as a three-star prospect in the 2027 class by 247Sports Composite Rankings, Woodson Jr. is currently ranked No. 804 overall, No. 82 among safeties, and No. 72 among Florida recruits. Despite those numbers, his on-field production suggests a player with serious potential. As a junior at Lake Nona High School in Orlando, he racked up 73 tackles, eight pass breakups, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery—helping his team to an 8-4 record and a spot in the regional semifinals of Florida's 7A state playoffs. He even added a kickoff return for a touchdown. His sophomore season was equally impressive, with 53 tackles, two PBUs, an interception, and another fumble recovery.
Of course, the shoes to fill are enormous. His father, Charles Woodson Sr., was a three-time All-Big Ten selection at Michigan from 1995-97, winning the Heisman Trophy in 1997 and leading the Wolverines to a national championship. He was drafted fourth overall by the Oakland Raiders in 1998, went on to earn nine Pro Bowl selections, was named NFL Rookie of the Year, and won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers. Now, his son steps onto the same path, ready to write his own chapter in maize and blue.
