Rick Barnes has been waiting for this moment for nearly four years. Back in October 2022, the Tennessee basketball coach brought Juke Harris to Knoxville for an official visit. At the time, Harris was a high school recruit—a promising prospect that Barnes had his eye on. But as recruiting often goes, Harris chose a different path, committing to Wake Forest.

Fast forward to May 4, 2025, and the basketball gods have finally aligned. Harris, now a standout guard for the Demon Deacons, announced his transfer to Tennessee, becoming the crown jewel of the Vols' offseason portal haul. "We are thrilled Juke made the decision to join our program," Barnes said in a school release. "He is not only an explosive talent, but also a humble young man from a great family."

Barnes didn't mince words about Harris's value. "As someone we were familiar with from his high school recruitment, Juke was a primary target for us as soon as the portal opened." And it's easy to see why. The 6-foot-7 guard averaged 21.4 points per game in his sophomore season at Wake Forest—ranking sixth in the entire country in total points scored. He shot 44.4% from the floor and 33.2% from beyond the arc across 35 games.

Harris gives Tennessee the go-to scoring punch it lost when Nate Ament decided to stay in the NBA Draft. While Harris briefly flirted with the pros himself—earning a combine invite and being projected as an early second-round pick by ESPN—he opted to bring his talents to Rocky Top for at least one more season.

And he won't be alone. The Vols have assembled a loaded roster around him. Cal guard Dai Dai Ames, Notre Dame forward Jalen Haralson, Belmont's Tyler Lundblade, and VCU's Terrence Hill Jr. will all share the scoring load. In the frontcourt, returning forward DeWayne Brown II will be joined by transfer center Miles Rubin (Loyola Chicago) and Kennesaw State's Braedan Lue.

But make no mistake: this is Juke Harris's team now. Barnes described him as a player who "can take over a game and impose his will at any time." For Vols fans who remember that 2022 visit, the wait has been long—but the payoff could be unforgettable.
