The Washington Huskies are among the five finalists for the No. 1 in-state player in the 2027 class.

The Washington Huskies just got a huge boost in their 2027 recruiting efforts, landing among the top five finalists for the state's No. 1-ranked prospect—a game-changing defensive tackle who could anchor their line for years to come.

Four-star standout Tevita Nonu, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound powerhouse from O'Dea High School in Seattle, announced his final five schools Wednesday evening. Alongside Washington, the coveted defensive lineman is considering Arizona, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Oregon. According to the 247Sports Composite, Nonu ranks as the No. 245 overall prospect and No. 26 defensive lineman in his class, making him a prized recruit with 17 initial offers to choose from.

What makes this development especially exciting for Huskies fans is the momentum already building behind Washington's pursuit. Nonu has an official visit scheduled with the Huskies on June 5, while the Arizona Wildcats are the only other finalist with a confirmed visit (May 29). Interestingly, a previously planned trip to UCLA on May 15 now appears unlikely, signaling that Washington has emerged as a frontrunner.

The relationship between Nonu and Washington's defensive line coach, Jason Kaufusi, has been a key factor throughout the process. That strong connection has even earned the Huskies a crystal ball prediction to land his commitment—a significant indicator in the recruiting world. If Nonu does choose Washington, he'd pair perfectly with four-star defensive tackle commit Jon Ioane, forming a formidable interior duo.

Scouting reports paint a picture of a player with immense potential. Former 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins praised Nonu's "projectable 6-foot-3.5, 275-pound frame" and noted his ability to "split double teams and get in the backfield." With "excellent quickness" and "natural athleticism," Nonu has the tools to chase down plays from behind and dominate at the collegiate level.

Washington's 2027 recruiting class is already ranked No. 12 nationally, with two defensive line commits in Ioane and three-star prospect Matamatagi Uiagalelei. Adding a local star like Nonu would not only strengthen that ranking but also send a powerful message about the Huskies' ability to keep elite talent home.
