The Washburn Ichabods women's golf program is rapidly carving out its legacy, demonstrating remarkable progress in just its second season. The team has already secured six top-five finishes, highlighted by two runner-up titles and a monumental first-ever tournament victory.

That historic win came at their home event, the Firekeeper Open on March 24, where they topped a field of 13 teams. This success builds on the foundation laid during their inaugural 2024-25 campaign, a point of pride for the pioneering athletes. "I love when our coach tells us that we’re making history," said golfer Angelina Borg-Malec. "It’s pretty cool to be a part of the first years of this program."

The team's momentum is undeniable. They recently placed sixth out of 17 teams at the competitive Spring Region Preview, powered by strong individual performances. Borg-Malec fired a final-round 2-under 70, while teammate Keira Ronsick closed with an even-par 72, with both golfers tying for fourth overall.

This cohesive, confident spirit is fueling their ascent. "Everybody’s really confident, having a great time, which is the best part of it," shared Susana Granados Carrion. "Just having fun on the course and playing for your team, not just yourself."

Individually, Angelina Borg-Malec has had a standout season, earning MIAA Golfer of the Week honors twice—joining Ronsick as only the second Ichabod to achieve the feat. After a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional in their debut season, the team is now poised for its second postseason run.

The next test is the MIAA Golf Championships, beginning April 13 in Kearney, Nebraska, where the Ichabods will look to continue writing their impressive new chapter in collegiate golf.
