The 2026 IHSAA girls track and field season is underway! Vote in the poll at the bottom of the article for who you believe will be crowned IndyStar Field Athlete of the Year at the end of the season!
The Whiteland senior finished second in the long jump at state last season. Stevenson leads the state this year with the longest jump (19-2.25 at the Mid-State Indoor on March 17, one of four first-place finishes in the long jump this year).
Hamilton finished first in the long jump at the Brownsburg Individuals meet on March 7 and at the Brownsburg Hoosiers Crossroads Conference meet four days later. The Brownsburg senior finished 12th at state in the long jump last season.
The Center Grove senior finished second at state in the discus throw and tenth in the shot put. Barile finished second in the shot put during the Whiteland Hoosier State Relays Qualifier on March 6 with a 41-4 throw, the sixth-best tally in the state this season.
The Franklin sophomore has the 10th-best shot put this season with a 40-1 throw during the Warren Central HSR Qualifier on March 11. Judge finished third in the event at the Mid-State Indoor on March 17. Judge placed fifth at state in the discus throw as a freshman.
VonDielingen finished eighth in the discus throw and ninth in the shot put at state last season. The Whiteland senior hopes to close her final year with another podium finish, and with the way she has started the campaign, a state medal is imminent. VonDielingen has four first-place finishes in the shot put this season and has the second-longest throw in Indiana this season (43-0.75).
The New Palestine senior registered a 17-10 jump on March 13 at the White HSR Qualifier, giving her the seventh-best leap in Indiana so far this season. Journay finished fourth in the event at the Brownsburg Bulldog Last Chance meet on March 21. Journay has also competed in the high jump, distance medley relay, 4x400 relay, 200 and 400 this season.
The long jump specialist placed fourth in the event at sectionals, but failed to advance to state after finishing sixth at regionals. The Cathedral sophomore has a bright future and continues to provide a glimpse into it this season. Scott finished fourth at the first Whiteland HSR Qualifier on March 6 before capturing third place at the second qualifying meet a week later. Scott placed second at the Fall Creek Pavilion HSR Qualifier on March 19.
Swart’s highest vault this season is 11-6, the third-best among pole vaulters in the statement. The Cathedral senior hopes to cap her final season with a podium finish in the event at state after placing 15th last year.
The junior Greyhound finished second in the pole vault at the IWU/Marion HSR qualifier to start the campaign on March 7. She had the same result on March 19 at the Fall Creek HSR qualifying meet before capturing her first victory in the event two days later at the Brownsburg Bulldog Last Chance meet.
The Westfield senior looks to rebound after a disappointing 18th-place finish at state last season in the pole vault. Not even a month into the season, and Jenkins is showing that a podium finish at state is on the way. Jenkins’ 13-0 vault on March 19 at the Fall Creek HSR qualifying meet is the second-best this season.
Barring injury, Smith should win the high jump state title this season. Smith, who placed third in the event at state last season, has yet to lose in the high jump this year and her 6-0 jump at the Whiteland Hoosier State Relay Qualifier on March 6 is the best among Indiana high jumpers this season. The Warren Central junior also competes in the 60 meters and 60 meter hurdles and races on the team’s 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
The HSE senior finished fifth at state last season with a jump of 5-6. The reigning sectional champion placed first in the event at the IWU/Marion HSR Qualifier in early March and followed her performance with a second-place finish at the West Lafayette HSR qualifier on March 12.
Dudik has the fourth-highest jump on the year with a 5-7 leap at the Whiteland HSR Qualifier. The Chatard senior finished first at the Warren Central HSR qualifying meet on March 11. Dudik finished seventh in the event at state last season, third at regionals and runner-up at sectionals.
Alvies has the sixth-best jump in the state this season after logging a 17-10.5 at the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference Indoor Championships on March 20. The Lawrence Central sophomore placed first in the event during the Warren Central Hoosier State Relays Qualifier on March 4. Alvies also races the 60 meters and is a member of the Bears’ 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
King boasts the third-longest shot put this season at 43-0. The Pike junior has two first-place finishes and a runner-up performance this year. King hopes to advance to state in the event this season after placing eighth in the shot put at regionals last year.
The Avon junior placed eighth at state in the high jump last season after winning a sectional title and finishing third at regionals. Denagall’s 5-8 jump at the Brownsburg Hoosier Crossroads Conference Indoor meet on March 11 is the third-highest leap this season among Indiana high jumpers. Denagall also races on the Orioles’ 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
The senior Shamrock failed to qualify for state in the high jump last season. She hopes to make an appearance in her final year, and it’s bound to happen if she keeps performing like she did at the Brownsburg HCC Indoor meet, where she placed second in the high jump at 5-6, the third-best leap in the state this season.
The Brownsburg freshman will be a dominant force in the high jump for years to come. Green started her first season with a win at the Brownsburg Individuals on March 7 and followed with a fifth-place finish at the Brownsburg HCC Indoor meet. Green placed third in the high jump at the Brownsburg Bulldog Last Chance meet on March 21. Green has the 15th-highest jump (5-4) this season.
Tobias finished 11th in the discus throw at state last year. The Fishers senior has produced an impressive collection of performances to start the year, placing first in the shot put at two events. Tobias finished third at the Brownsburg Hoosier Crossroads Conference Indoor meet on March 11.
