Vanderbilt basketball has secured a significant boost for its frontcourt, landing Nebraska transfer forward Berke Buyuktuncel as its first commitment from the transfer portal this offseason, according to a report from On3 Sports.
The 6-foot-10, 244-pound big man brings valuable size and experience to Nashville. After beginning his collegiate career at UCLA, Buyuktuncel spent the last two seasons with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, where he developed into a reliable interior presence.
His most recent season saw him average 6.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 46.8% from the field. He showcased his versatile skill set with a standout triple-double performance against North Dakota and proved he can perform on the big stage, posting 12 points and four rebounds against these very Commodores in the second round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
This addition is a major win for head coach Mark Byington and signals Vanderbilt's intent to compete in a loaded SEC. Buyuktuncel's physicality and proven rebounding ability will be crucial as the Commodores look to build on their recent tournament appearance and make a deeper run next season.
