FC Augsburg's European dreams went up in flames under the Berlin sun as Union Berlin delivered a stunning 4-0 demolition on the final day of the season. What started as a hopeful bid for a Conference League spot quickly turned into a nightmare for the visitors, who simply had no answer to Union's relentless attack.

The scoring opened in the most bizarre fashion imaginable. A long ball from Karl Klaus sent Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen and defender Robin Fellhauer chasing after it, only for the two teammates to collide in a moment of pure chaos. That left Andras Schäfer to pick up the pieces and feed Ilic for the easiest of tap-ins.

Augsburg tried to respond through Livan Burcu, who looked dangerous on the counter-attack, but Jeffrey Gouweleewu slammed the door shut every time. The visitors finally created something approaching a chance around the half-hour mark when Anton Kade found Marius Wolf on the right flank, but his cross somehow evaded everyone in the box.

Just before halftime, Union doubled their lead in eerily similar fashion. Klaus launched another long ball forward, Oliver Burke flicked it perfectly into Ilic's path, and the Serbian unleashed a low, powerful strike from outside the box that left Dahmen with no chance.

The second half brought no relief for Augsburg. Within nine minutes of the restart, Union made it 3-0 from a short corner routine. Andras Schäfer wound up and thumped the ball into the top-right corner, and you could almost see Augsburg's European hopes evaporate along with Dahmen's frustration.

Desperate times called for desperate measures. Augsburg made a double switch, bringing on Mads Petersen and Noakhai Banks for Wolf and Matsima. Union countered by introducing fresh legs in Josip Juranovic and Woo-Yeong Jeong.

Kade showed glimpses of his recent goal-scoring form, forcing Klaus to make a save with his second attempt in as many minutes. Union fans thought they had a fourth when Tom Rothe found the net, but it was ruled out for a foul in the buildup.

Young Uchenna Ogundu showed flashes of promise for Augsburg, but the final nail in the coffin came with just a minute of normal time remaining. Jeong tapped in with ease from close range, putting the icing on a cake that Union had been baking all afternoon.

For Union Berlin, it was a dominant send-off that their fans will remember for a long time. For Augsburg, it was a brutal lesson in how quickly footballing dreams can crumble.
