The transfer window is heating up, and 1. FC Union Berlin is making moves to shore up their defense. With key defenders Danilho Doekhi and Diogo Leite both set to depart when their contracts expire this summer, the German capital club is wasting no time in finding replacements.

Reports have already surfaced that Union Berlin has agreed to a deal to bring back Marvin Friedrich from Borussia Mönchengladbach, a familiar face who knows the club well. But it seems they're not stopping there. According to Bild and Radio Marca, Union is now in advanced talks to sign Swiss international Eray Cömert from Valencia CF.

Cömert, 27, has been a solid presence in La Liga over the past three and a half seasons with Valencia. This campaign, the center-back has made 18 appearances and found the back of the net twice—a handy bonus for a defender. Best of all for Union, his contract with the Spanish side expires at the end of the season, meaning he would be available on a free transfer this summer.

If both deals go through, Union Berlin's backline will look very different next season—and potentially much stronger. For a club that prides itself on defensive solidity, these reinforcements could be exactly what they need to continue competing at the top level. Stay tuned for more updates as the transfer saga unfolds.
