UNC guard makes key decision on college basketball future

Luka Bogavac was good for 10 points on any night for the UNC basketball program. The international guard announced his transfer destination on Monday.

The college basketball transfer portal is buzzing in its second week, and the North Carolina Tar Heels are right in the middle of the action. While UNC secured a new piece on Monday with Virginia Tech freshman Neoklis Avdalas, the program is also seeing key departures.

Starting point guard Derek Dixon is headed to Arizona, and now, reliable scorer Luka Bogavac has found a new home. After initially recommitting to UNC, the international guard entered the portal and announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Monday.

Bogavac brought a consistent offensive spark to Chapel Hill. Whether coming off the bench or in the starting lineup, the European sharpshooter was good for around 10 points per game, providing a steady scoring punch. His Tar Heel career was highlighted by a 20-point explosion on Senior Night in a win over Clemson and an impressive eight-game double-digit scoring streak early in the season.

However, his production dipped in postseason play, and he finishes his UNC tenure averaging 9.8 points per game. Now, he heads to Stillwater with a chance to be a primary offensive weapon for head coach Steve Lutz at Oklahoma State, a program looking to climb in the competitive Big 12.

While not the transformational star some hoped for, Bogavac was a valuable contributor to UNC's success. His departure marks another shift in the roster as the Tar Heels navigate the ever-changing landscape of college basketball.
