The loss dropped Boston to 17-24 overall and a dismal 7-13 at home. The Red Sox have now lost 10 of their last 13 games at Fenway, where the bats have gone eerily quiet. In fact, Boston has scored just 18 runs over their last 10 home games — the fewest in a 10-game home stretch since 1917. That's over a century of baseball history, and this is the low point.

"We've talked about it last year and pretty much every year that the best teams here play well at home," Story told NESN after the game. "We have to find a way to do that and just kind of reverse what we've got going. Easier said than done, but we're putting in the work and we're confident that we can do it."

The contrast is stark. The Red Sox are averaging just 2.85 runs per game at Fenway compared to 4.76 on the road — a gap that's hard to explain for a team that should feel comfortable in its own ballpark. Tuesday's game was a microcosm of the season: Boston had a chance to tie or win in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and one out, only to leave them stranded.

"It doesn't feel good right now," Story added. "All we can do is keep working, keep pushing, we'll figure out a way."
