The University of Hawaii Hilo Vulcans' softball season came to a close Friday, falling 10-2 to Cal State Dominguez Hills in a five-inning contest at the NCAA Division II Championships West Regional in San Marcos, California.
The Vulcans struck first, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Mia Joaquin delivered a timely single. But the momentum shifted quickly as the Toros answered with three runs in the bottom half of the frame, then erupted for six more in the second to take control. Joaquin finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs, while Rayna White crossed the plate twice for Hilo. For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Dyoni Garcia was the offensive star, smashing a double and a home run while driving in four runs.
The loss came a day after the Vulcans were sent to the losers' bracket following a 9-1 defeat to top-seeded Cal State San Marcos. Despite the early exit, Hilo wraps up the season with a solid 26-19 overall record and a strong 23-11 mark in PacWest Conference play—a campaign that showcased their resilience and competitive spirit on the regional stage.
