In a move that bridges generations of football excellence, the Iowa Hawkeyes are bringing back one of their own. Tom Moore, the 87-year-old coaching legend who will celebrate his 88th birthday during the upcoming season, is returning to his alma mater to serve as a senior consultant to head coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive adviser.

Moore's connection to Iowa runs deep. He lettered as a quarterback and kicker for the Hawkeyes in 1959-60 before launching a coaching career that began right where it's now continuing—as a graduate assistant in Iowa City. From there, his journey took him through college stops at Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota before making the leap to the NFL.

What followed was a remarkable professional career spanning nearly five decades. Moore joined the Pittsburgh Steelers as receivers coach in 1977, working alongside Hall of Fame coaches and helping build dynasties. His NFL résumé includes stints with the Vikings, Lions, Saints, and Colts, plus consulting roles with the Jets, Titans, Cardinals, and most recently the Buccaneers from 2019-25.

The proof of his impact? Four Super Bowl rings—two with the Steelers, one with the Colts, and another with the Buccaneers. That's the kind of championship pedigree that can transform a program.

"I have known Tom Moore for over a decade and am thrilled that he has agreed to join our program in an advisory role," Ferentz said. "Coach Moore has had a long and very successful career in football. He was a player at Iowa, coached at the collegiate level and spent many years working alongside Hall of Fame coaches in the National Football League. I am grateful that a four-time Super Bowl champion will share his wisdom and perspectives with us—coaches and players."

For Hawkeyes fans, this homecoming represents more than just a feel-good story. It's a chance for a new generation of players to learn from someone who has seen it all—from the college game to the highest levels of professional football. And for Moore, it's a return to where it all began, bringing a lifetime of football knowledge back to the place that first shaped his love for the game.
