A record-breaking defensive performance from Victor Wembanyama is not enough to prevent the Minnesota Timberwolves taking a lead against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA play-offs.

The NBA playoffs are heating up, and the first round has already delivered drama, records, and a few surprises. In a thrilling Western Conference matchup, the Minnesota Timberwolves drew first blood against the San Antonio Spurs, securing a hard-fought 104-102 victory on the road. Despite a historic defensive performance from Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, the Timberwolves managed to steal Game 1 as the sixth seed in the West, upsetting the second-seeded Spurs.

Wembanyama, recently named Defensive Player of the Year, put on a show for the ages. He recorded an incredible 12 blocks—a new NBA playoff record—along with 11 points and 15 rebounds. This triple-double made him just the third player in league history to achieve a blocks-based triple-double in the postseason since the NBA started tracking blocks in 1973-74. "We have to be better," Wembanyama said after the game. "We need to figure it out in the next 48 hours, and I've got no doubt that we will. I would trust us."

For Minnesota, the return of Anthony Edwards was a game-changer. Coming off a knee injury, Edwards provided a spark off the bench, scoring 18 points and helping the Timberwolves hold on down the stretch. The series now shifts to Game 2, still in San Antonio, where the Spurs will look to even things up before heading to Minnesota.

Over in the Eastern Conference, the New York Knicks made a statement of their own, dismantling the Philadelphia 76ers 137-98 at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks, seeded third, became the first team in NBA history to win three straight playoff games by at least 25 points. Jalen Brunson was unstoppable, dropping 27 of his game-high 35 points in the first half, while London-born forward OG Anunoby added 18 points.

Fresh off a 140-89 blowout of the Atlanta Hawks, the Knicks joined an elite club as only the second team ever to close out one series and start another with consecutive 30-point wins. 76ers coach Nick Nurse summed up the lopsided loss bluntly: "Wasn't any fun to be a part of, to be honest. But it's 0-1. Doesn't really matter if it's six points or 36 or whatever the hell it was." Game 2 is set for Wednesday at the Garden, and the 76ers will need a major adjustment to avoid falling into a deeper hole.

As the playoffs roll on, every game brings new energy and storylines. Whether you're rooting for a Cinderella run or a powerhouse showdown, now's the time to gear up in your team's best. From Timberwolves blue to Knicks orange, rep your squad in style as the race to the Finals heats up.
