Tim Tadlock reached a major milestone on Friday, securing his 500th career victory as head coach of the Texas Tech baseball program. The Red Raiders edged Cincinnati 6-5 in the first game of a doubleheader at UC Baseball Stadium, keeping their postseason hopes alive in the process.
Caden Ferraro and Robin Villeneuve provided the power with home runs, while Linkin Garcia delivered the go-ahead hit to put Tech ahead for good. Donovan Becerra turned in five solid innings on the mound, earning his first win of the season. The victory was a team effort, with two-way standout Connor Shouse contributing three hits, including two doubles, a sacrifice fly, and his third save of the year. Shouse also pitched two scoreless innings, working through some late-inning drama with poise.
Tadlock, now in his 14th season at the helm, improved to 500-302 as Texas Tech's head coach. He was promoted to the position in June 2012 after serving as associate head coach, and his overall college coaching record stands at an impressive 935-429, including nine successful seasons at Grayson College. The milestone came just one day after Tadlock was ejected from Thursday's series opener for arguing following the ejection of starting pitcher Kaysen Raineri.
The win couldn't have come at a better time for the Red Raiders, who entered the weekend fighting for a spot in next week's Big 12 tournament in Surprise, Arizona. With 12 teams qualifying, Texas Tech (27-26, 10-19 in Big 12 play) currently sits in 12th place, just ahead of Arizona (19-32, 9-19) and behind Kansas State (27-25, 10-18). If Tech and Arizona finish tied, the Red Raiders hold the tiebreaker thanks to their series victory in Tucson earlier this season.
The doubleheader was moved up from Saturday due to a 70% chance of rain in the forecast, adding even more urgency to an already high-stakes weekend. For Tadlock and his squad, every game now carries the weight of a must-win—and Friday's milestone victory was the perfect way to keep that momentum rolling.
