Indiana basketball has secured a major backcourt boost for the upcoming season, landing a commitment from Notre Dame transfer and former Indiana Mr. Basketball, Markus Burton.
The Penn High School graduate, who earned the prestigious Mr. Basketball honor in 2023, brings a proven scoring pedigree to Bloomington. During his career with the Fighting Irish, Burton averaged an impressive 19.1 points and 3.8 assists per game, establishing himself as a dynamic offensive engine.
For new head coach Darian DeVries, this is a significant early win in the transfer portal. Burton provides an immediate focal point for the Hoosiers' offense. The Mishawaka native is a true combo guard, capable of creating for others and carrying the scoring load himself, a skill set honed over three seasons where he consistently logged over 30 minutes per game.
After a season cut short to just 10 games due to an ankle injury, Burton is poised for a fresh start back in his home state. He chose the Hoosiers over other top programs, including a visit to Houston, signaling his importance to IU's rebuild. His experience and scoring punch will be vital as Indiana looks to make noise in the Big Ten next season.
