The Indiana Hoosiers have just secured a major backcourt boost for the upcoming season. Former Notre Dame guard and 2023 IndyStar Mr. Basketball winner, Markus Burton, has committed to transferring to IU, giving new head coach Darian DeVries a proven, high-scoring playmaker.
Burton, a native of Mishawaka, Indiana, brings an impressive track record from his time with the Fighting Irish. Over 69 career appearances, he averaged 19.1 points and 3.8 assists per game, establishing himself as a dynamic offensive force capable of both creating for others and scoring himself. His experience in a primary role is a huge asset; he consistently logged over 30 minutes per game throughout his collegiate career.
After an ankle injury limited him to just 10 games last season, Burton entered the transfer portal as one of the most sought-after guards available. He chose the Hoosiers over other top programs, including a visit to Houston, before deciding to return to his home state. His commitment instantly elevates Indiana's backcourt and he is poised to be a focal point of the offense in Bloomington next season.
