Here are the Wizards’ options with the No. 1 NBA Draft pick, and what they should do with it.

The Washington Wizards just got the lottery luck they've been waiting decades for. After a painful 17-win season that featured some of the most blatant tanking the league has seen, the Wizards finally won the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft—something no team with the worst record had done since the lottery odds were reformed in 2019.

Let's put this in perspective: The Wizards haven't won 50 games in a season since 1978-79. That stat alone tells you how badly this franchise needed a win. But suddenly, there's real hope in D.C.

The front office has already been busy. They pulled off bold trades for veterans Trae Young and Anthony Davis during the season, and they've got a promising young core featuring 2024's No. 2 pick Alex Sarr, last year's No. 6 pick Tre Johnson, and the versatile Kyshawn George. Now, with the top pick in their pocket, the Wizards could accelerate their rebuild faster than anyone expected.

So what's the right move? Our instant mock draft has Washington taking BYU forward A.J. Dybantsa at No. 1, and it's easy to see why. Imagine a lineup with Anthony Davis anchoring the paint, Alex Sarr and Tre Johnson on the wings, and Trae Young running the show. Dybantsa slides perfectly into the small forward spot, bringing elite shot creation with a devastating first step, powerful drives through contact, and the length to finish over defenders. Johnson's movement shooting spaces the floor, Sarr and Davis dominate inside, and Young can focus more on his off-ball game.

It's a lineup that could turn things around quickly in the East. The Wizards have options, but Dybantsa feels like the right fit for a team ready to compete again.
