Werder Bremen had the chance to secure their Bundesliga survival early on Saturday, but a disappointing 1-3 home defeat to FC Augsburg left the Hanseatic side with work still to do. The loss at the Weserstadion was a bitter pill to swallow for the Green-Whites, who had hoped to take a decisive step toward safety.

Head coach Daniel Thioune didn't hold back in his post-match assessment, offering a candid breakdown of where things went wrong. "We were simply not at the level we had shown in the previous two matches," Thioune admitted. "Our positional play was quite good at the start of the game, and we had the opponent under control. But in the areas where you need to transition to become dangerous, we gave the ball away far too easily."

The 51-year-old tactician highlighted a costly pattern that has plagued many teams in similar situations. "We then had to do a lot of chasing. That cost a lot of energy, and in possession, we were then unable to produce that energy ourselves. For the goals we conceded, we simply had no control in our defensive transition. Those were the moments that really hurt us."

Despite the setback, Werder Bremen still hold a six-point cushion over the relegation play-off spot with just two games remaining. But the margin could shrink to three points if FC St. Pauli beats Mainz 05. Thioune, however, remains focused on the fight ahead rather than the numbers on the table. "We have difficult tasks ahead of us. We still need points. The battle will go on for a few more rounds and has not been decided today," he stressed.

For a team that has shown resilience throughout the season, this defeat serves as a reminder that nothing is guaranteed in the Bundesliga. As the season reaches its climax, every match now carries the weight of a final—and for Werder Bremen, the fight is far from over.
