The Buffalo Bills could be in for a significant draft-day windfall if the Minnesota Vikings decide to hire Terrance Gray as their next general manager.

According to a report from Tom Pelissero on Wednesday morning, the Vikings have officially requested an interview with Gray, who currently serves as the Bills' assistant general manager—a role he's held since May 2025 after three years as Buffalo's director of player personnel.

This isn't just another interview for Gray; it's something of a homecoming. He spent 11 years in Minnesota as a scout before joining the Bills in 2017 as the team's director of college scouting. That deep-rooted connection makes him a natural fit for the Vikings' front office search.

Gray will be the first candidate interviewed in Minnesota's GM hunt, though interim GM Rob Brzezinski is also in the mix. It's worth noting that Gray is no stranger to this process—he interviewed for the Chargers' GM vacancy in 2024 and the Titans' top job just last year.

Here's where things get interesting for Bills fans: If Gray lands the Vikings gig, Buffalo would receive compensatory third-round draft picks in both the 2027 and 2028 NFL Drafts. This perk comes courtesy of the league's 2020 Resolution JC-2A, which rewards teams for developing minority candidates who go on to become head coaches or general managers elsewhere.

The NFL has seen similar scenarios play out recently. The Detroit Lions received a third-round pick in the 2026 draft after the New York Jets hired former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their head coach. Likewise, the Los Angeles Rams were awarded third-round picks in both 2024 and 2025 when the Atlanta Falcons hired Raheem Morris as head coach in 2024.

Should Gray depart for Minnesota, he'd become the fourth assistant GM to be hired away from the Bills during the Brandon Beane era. He'd join Dan Morgan, Joe Schoen, and Brian Gaine—the latter of whom has since returned to Buffalo's organization and would be the most logical candidate to step back into the assistant GM role.

For a Bills team that's been consistently building through the draft, those extra third-round picks could be the silver lining that keeps the pipeline strong, even as they lose a key front-office architect.
