Texas A&M's first full offseason under head coach Bucky McMillan took a massive turn on Wednesday after landing two key additions, headlined by former NBA G-League guard Bryson Warren committing and signing with the Aggies, combined with veteran forward Mackenzie Mgbako announcing his return to the roster, while LSU transfer guard Jalen Reece is now headed to College Station.
Pending Warren being granted eligibility to play next season, Texas A&M's backcourt is already in elite form with Kansas State transfer shooting guard PJ Haggerty also in the fold, while McMillan and his staff will shift their focus to building the frontcourt, already knowing that forwards Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson will return, and have been consistently connected to Loyola Marymount transfer forward Jalen Shelley.
One of the top available forwards in the portal, Shelley averaged 13.7 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 2.7 APG in his final season with the Lions, and his ability to play inside out and shoot a high percentage, finishing 45.7% from the field, matches what McMillan is looking for from his big men.
A native of Little Elm, Texas, the former USC forward will reportedly visit Texas A&M this weekend, starting on Friday after visiting Virginia, and will then head to Vanderbilt for a visit on Sunday, which was confirmed by On3 insider Joe Tipton. If the Aggies can land Shelley's commitment, this would be another step in the right direction for a roster poised to compete for an SEC title.
