Texas A&M's first season under head coach Bucky McMillan was a promising one, culminating in a second-round NCAA Tournament appearance built entirely through the transfer portal. Now, with the offseason in full swing, the Aggies are back in the portal market, looking to reload for another competitive run in the SEC.
The departure of key starters like forward Rashaun Agee and guard Rylan Griffen opened significant roster spots. However, the return of forwards Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson, coupled with the major addition of Kansas State scoring guard PJ Haggerty, has given the program positive momentum heading into the summer.
That momentum may be building further, as the Aggies are now reportedly in strong contention to land Tennessee transfer forward Cade Phillips. According to On3's Joe Tipton, Texas A&M is currently trending to secure the 6'9", 221-pound senior after his recent visit to College Station.
Phillips, known for his efficient interior play—shooting 65% from the field last season—would provide valuable frontcourt depth and athleticism. While his role at Tennessee was limited, his physical tools and experience in a top-tier program like the Volunteers make him an intriguing fit for McMillan's system.
With Jamie Vinson poised for a potential breakout, adding a player like Phillips creates healthy competition and solidifies the Aggies' interior rotation. Securing his commitment would be another significant win in the portal for a Texas A&M program clearly focused on building a sustainable winner in the rugged SEC landscape.
