When Steph Curry first stepped onto an NBA court, he was the underdog story personified—an undersized point guard with a lightning-quick release but plenty of doubters. It took years for the two-time MVP to find his voice as a leader, but the journey was shaped by an unlikely mentor: Dorell Wright.
"Dorell Wright was a guy my second or third year that just had a charisma about him," Curry shared on the "Fudd Around and Find Out" podcast. "He connected with pretty much everybody in the locker room, so I kind of got to see how he navigated that space."
Wright brought more than just energy to the Golden State Warriors. As a former Miami Heat champion, he had firsthand experience with winning cultures and veteran leadership. "He was a champion in Miami, so he had been around a successful veteran team. He had seen how it’s done, and even in that short amount of time, I learned a lot from him," Curry added.
It’s a reminder that even the greatest shooters in NBA history needed a helping hand to find their footing—and that leadership often comes from the most unexpected places.
