During an interview with Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy echoed team president Art Rooney II‘s stance on the Steelers placing the seldomly-used UFA tender on quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

In a recent interview with Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the team's unexpected decision to place a rare unrestricted free agent (UFA) tender on quarterback Aaron Rodgers. This move, which has sparked plenty of chatter across the NFL, aligns with the stance previously shared by team president Art Rooney II.

"This is all a part of the process that we've discussed all along," McCarthy explained. "We are consistently in communication. He's where he should be right now. He's taking the time personally to accomplish some things in his personal life. I'm sure he and I will talk in the near future."

The UFA tender is rarely used in the league, making this a strategic play by the Steelers front office. McCarthy elaborated on the business side of the decision: "The business transaction was definitely there was some communication beforehand, and it's something that just puts us in position to be smart business-wise. To potentially have a comp pick if things go that way."

This approach allows Pittsburgh to maintain flexibility while keeping the door open for Rodgers, a future Hall of Famer who has been weighing his options this offseason. Rooney had previously downplayed the significance of the tender, framing it as a routine procedural step rather than a dramatic statement.

For Steelers fans, the situation remains fluid. With both McCarthy and Rooney emphasizing patience and communication, it's clear the team is playing the long game—balancing roster needs with salary cap strategy. Whether Rodgers ultimately dons the black and gold remains to be seen, but Pittsburgh is making sure they're covered no matter how the dominoes fall.
