The Southern Lee Cavaliers are celebrating a historic season after claiming the Carolina Pines Conference tournament title with a commanding 12-6 victory over Triton High on Thursday. The win marks the first conference tournament championship for head coach Tommy Harrington, a milestone that has the entire community buzzing.
The Cavaliers didn't just stop at the tournament crown—they also secured the conference regular season championship, proving their dominance from start to finish. Sophomore Ben Harrington earned the win on the mound, while junior Bailey Berg locked down the save, showcasing the team's depth and resilience.
Triton came out swinging, plating four runs in the top of the first inning, but their offense stalled until a two-run sixth. Defensive miscues proved costly for the Hawks, as multiple errors opened the door for Southern Lee's relentless attack.
The Cavaliers responded immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and never looking back. They added two runs in both the second and third innings, then erupted for five more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Offensively, it was a balanced effort. Junior Max Andrew Sercy and sophomore Ben Harrington each tallied two hits and two RBIs, while junior Drew Patton contributed a hit and two RBIs. Sophomore Sam Taylor also chipped in with two hits, keeping the lineup humming all game long.
For Triton, Austin Wise stood out with three hits and two RBIs, while Alan Hinson drove in two runs and Tyson Stephens added two hits in a losing effort.
According to MaxPreps, Southern Lee's only losses this season came against Overhills, Triton, and Grays Creek—a testament to their consistency against a tough schedule that included Lee County, Harnett Central, South Johnston, Union Pines, West Johnston, and Western Harnett.
With both a regular season and tournament title under their belts, the Cavaliers are proving they have the talent and determination to make a deep postseason run. For fans and players alike, this championship season is one to remember.
