In a thrilling high school softball showdown that came down to the final pitch, the Columbia Falls Wildkats held off a fierce Ronan Maidens comeback to secure a nail-biting 9-8 victory on Thursday. The game was a classic example of late-inning drama, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very last out.
The Wildkats built their lead with a decisive four-run fourth inning, sparked by Katie Bulawski's clutch RBI single. The momentum continued as Ella Timlick doubled to drive in another run, giving Columbia Falls a commanding 6-2 advantage. This kind of explosive offensive inning is where teamwork and timely hitting shine.
However, the Ronan Maidens refused to go quietly. They mounted a serious challenge in the sixth inning, plating four runs to narrow the gap to a single run. The rally was capped by a key two-RBI single from Kai-Cee Sorrell, showcasing the never-say-die attitude that defines competitive softball.
Columbia Falls responded immediately in the bottom of the sixth, with Kylie Gjesdal-Davis delivering what proved to be the game-winning RBI single to extend the lead to 9-6. But Ronan had one last push, as KaNana Couture knocked in two runs in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 9-8. With the tying run on base, the game fell to pitcher Katie Bulawski, who coolly struck out the final two batters to seal the hard-fought win for the Wildkats.
Bulawski was instrumental in the victory, not only with her bat but also from the circle, tallying nine strikeouts over five innings of work. For Ronan, Keeley Jackson provided a solid effort in relief, recording five strikeouts. It was a game of momentum swings, big hits, and resilient pitching—a perfect reminder of the excitement and passion found on the diamond.
