The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback situation that's always worth watching, and a new name has entered the conversation: Brendan Sorsby. The young signal-caller, who spent the last two seasons as the starter for the Cincinnati Bearcats, initially opted to skip the NFL Draft in favor of another year of college football, transferring to Texas Tech. But a recent betting scandal has thrown his future into uncertainty, and the Browns could be in the mix if he ends up in the supplemental draft.

Sorsby put together an impressive 2025 campaign, starting 12 games and completing 61.6% of his passes for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. He also showcased his athleticism, rushing for 580 yards and nine more scores. That dual-threat ability is what makes him an intriguing NFL prospect. However, his path to the pros now comes with serious questions.

According to an ESPN report, Sorsby had accounts with sportsbooks and daily fantasy operators in multiple states. Sources described him as a "high-volume, low-stakes bettor," meaning he placed many small wagers. Some bets were reportedly made under a different name, and ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Sorsby even bet on an Indiana game during his freshman season as a Hoosiers quarterback. The scandal has already led him to enter a rehab facility, and he could lose his college eligibility as a result.

If that happens, Sorsby would likely turn to the NFL's supplemental draft—and the Browns have been mentioned as a potential suitor. Draft analyst Todd McShay believes the team should use a first-round pick on him, citing his upside. But that seems like a steep price given the off-field concerns. ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi has also noted that the Browns have done their homework on Sorsby.

From a pure talent standpoint, Sorsby is an intriguing prospect. If he had entered this year's draft class, he would have been my QB3 and possibly challenged Ty Simpson for the QB2 spot. He has a huge arm, a quick release, and the athleticism to extend plays and pick up yards on the ground. But he's not a finished product—his mechanics, especially his footwork, need refinement, and his decision-making has room to grow. He's a developmental prospect who needs time, but the raw tools are undeniable.
