The Minnesota Vikings needed to get some help in stopping the run. They started fixing it when they drafted Caleb Banks in Round 1, and now they add a linebacker in Jake Golday. The Cincinnati defender is a fun player, almost a throwback type in a sense, as he is expected to now step in and play alongside Blake Cashman, who also plays a similar style.
For more specifics on Golday, all we have to go on is what the film has shown us, and we have some notes from Lance Zierlein's scouting reportto share.
Zierlein writes, "Golday is a big, explosive linebacker with a game best suited for work near the line of scrimmage. He attacks climbing blockers with heavy, aggressive hands. He also shows the strength to stack, compress gaps and finish with authority. . .He’s more powerful than elusive as a blitzer and is average in coverage. Golday’s traits, explosiveness and field demeanor should make him an early special teams standout with the potential to eventually start at Sam or inside linebacker."
He also has some strengths that Zierlein highlights, such as he boasts explosiveness, he can alter the tempo of the game, and he adds special teams depth as well.
