Scottie Scheffler definitely hasn’t been on his absolute best form during the 2026 season so far.

However, there is definitely some perspective required, with Scheffler having won once already this season.

The 29-year-old world number one also has five top-five finishes to his name. It’s worth noting as well that he still hasn’t missed a cut in 72 consecutive tournaments he has played.

Scottie Scheffler may have displayed some very uncharacteristic form in February and early March, but let’s not kid ourselves that he hasn’t been one of the best players on the PGA Tour this season.

Scheffler is playing this week at the Cadillac but will skip the Truist Championship next week, with the PGA Championship at Aronimink now just two weeks away.

He seems to be trending very nicely indeed at just the right time, after back-to-back runner-up finishes at The Masters and the RBC Heritage respectively.

The 29-year-old was struggling with his driver and iron play earlier on this season but he appears to have addressed both issues.

Scheffler is one of the hardest workers on the PGA Tour, if not the hardest.

So it’s no surprise that he has managed to turn things around.

He made far fewer mistakes over the past month than he was during his rounds in February and March.

However, despite his up and down form by his standards, Scheffler has been a birdie machine throughout the entire season.

So far in 2026, he has averaged 5.06 birdies per round on the PGA Tour. That puts him 0.12 ahead of Rory McIlroy and Akshay Bhatia in second place on the rankings.

Interestingly, no player has ever averaged more than five birdies per round in PGA Tour history.

Scheffler is usually known for playing tough golf courses well, but he can go very low as well if needed.

Over his last six seasons on the PGA Tour, Scheffler has averaged 4.7, 4.88, 4.41, 4.6, 4.39 and 4.35 birdies per round, from 2025 going backwards.

Perhaps it should be no surprise that he leads the PGA Tour scoring average this season as well.

He has averaged a score of 69.3 in 32 rounds of golf so far.

Scheffler is quite clearly warming up to something very special.

Would it really shock anyone if he went on to win two or three times before he attempts to complete the career Grand Slam at Shinnecock Hills?
