James Harden garnered the most attention in the series of moves the Cleveland Cavaliers made near the NBA trade deadline. Schroder scored 11 points in the fourth quarter as the Cavaliers came back to beat the Toronto Raptors 125-120 in Game 5 of their first-round series. “This guy’s played in huge games in the NBA and then on the international scene, so this type of game fits him,” Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said.

When the Cleveland Cavaliers made their blockbuster moves near the NBA trade deadline, all eyes were on James Harden. But as Game 5 of their first-round playoff series against the Toronto Raptors proved, sometimes the biggest impact comes from the most unexpected sources.

Down 74-67 at halftime and facing elimination on the road, the Cavaliers needed a spark. Enter Dennis Schroder, the veteran guard who delivered a fiery halftime speech that would change the course of the game. "I just wanted to see Cavs basketball—how we played when we first got here," Schroder explained. "We need the big guys. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley are the key to our team."

Schroder didn't just talk the talk—he walked it, scoring 11 crucial points in the fourth quarter to fuel a stunning 125-120 comeback victory. The 13-year NBA veteran finished with 19 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, including three 3-pointers, in just 21 minutes of action. It was the third-most points he's scored since joining the Cavaliers in February.

"This guy's played in huge games in the NBA and on the international scene, so this type of game fits him," said Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson. "I think it started with him getting to the rim, and then that loosened up the jumper for him. And his defense on RJ Barrett—he really harassed him. He was Dennis the Menace tonight."

Schroder, acquired from the Sacramento Kings alongside Keon Ellis on February 1, has a reputation for rising to the occasion. This marks the 17th time in his playoff career that he's scored at least 19 points, including a 20-point performance for Detroit in last year's postseason. "I love big games, I love the playoffs. You've just got to embrace it," Schroder said. "I've been through a lot of big games in my career. Experience matters, but at the end of the day, the urgency and energy—you've got to have it."

For a Cavaliers team loaded with superstar talent like Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, Schroder's leadership and clutch play served as a powerful reminder: in the playoffs, it's not just about the names on the marquee—it's about who steps up when it matters most. And on this night, wearing the Wine and Gold, Schroder proved he's built for the biggest moments.
