Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has reassured fans that the club's Saudi Arabian owners remain fully committed to their long-term vision, despite recent news of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) stepping back from LIV Golf. Speaking after a two-day summit with key figures, Howe emphasized that the "desire is unchanged" to elevate the Magpies to the pinnacle of English football.
Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan—who also serves as governor of the PIF—and minority owner Jamie Reuben were among those in attendance at Matfen Hall in Northumberland for the club's annual strategy meetings. While the PIF's decision to withdraw its multi-billion dollar backing of LIV Golf at season's end raised eyebrows, senior Newcastle officials were assured weeks ago that the move would have no bearing on the club's finances or ambitions.
Currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, Newcastle are in a transitional phase, but Howe insists the message from the top is clear: "It's to try and get to the top of the Premier League, to try and consistently win as many trophies as possible. I don't think that will change while the PIF are our owners. They are very ambitious for the football club."
That ambition is backed by tangible investment. The club is expected to announce plans for a state-of-the-art training ground following major capital commitments, and discussions are ongoing about the future of St James' Park—whether to expand the iconic stadium or build a new ground entirely. The goal is to turbocharge revenue streams and close the financial gap with the league's highest earners.
Howe acknowledged that building the infrastructure to compete with the elite will take time, but he sees the long-term planning as a sign of the owners' deep commitment. "They clearly care so much about the football club," he said. "There are very exciting times ahead, regardless of what happens in the short term."
For Newcastle fans, the message is one of patience and promise: the journey to the top is a marathon, not a sprint, but the owners are all in for the long haul.
