The Brazil Women's U-17 National Team is setting their sights high as they prepare for the semifinal of the South American Championship. After a strong group stage performance, head coach Rilany Silva's squad is now just one step away from glory—and a ticket to the World Cup. On Wednesday (6), they'll face Chile, with the winner punching their ticket to the final and securing a coveted spot on the global stage.
Midfielder Sarah Coelho is brimming with confidence ahead of the crucial clash. "We're completely focused on our six missions—those are our goals," she said. "I know we're all united out there. There's always joy and boldness on the field, and we know exactly what we need to do. We're ready to get through the semifinal, reach the final, and book our place in the World Cup."
For Coelho, wearing the iconic yellow jersey is more than just a dream—it's a responsibility. "Representing Brazil is always a reason for gratitude. Gratitude to God and to my family. I don't just represent one nation, but every girl out there who shares the same dream as me. It's a huge honor to be part of this team," she shared.
Sarah Coelho's journey to the national team is a testament to perseverance and family support. Hailing from Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, she started her football journey playing with boys before earning a tryout at Centro Olímpico in São Paulo. At first, she and her parents made the long trip to the state capital once a month. But when the offer from São Paulo came, everything changed. In her first month, Sarah lived alone while her mother was pregnant with her younger brother. Soon, the entire family moved to be with her, providing the support she needed to chase her dream.
"My whole family has always believed in me," she said. "My mom and dad especially—they've done everything possible so I could achieve what I wanted most."
As Brazil prepares for the semifinal, the team carries not just the hopes of a nation, but the dreams of every young girl who dares to play. With Sarah Coelho leading the charge, they're ready to make history.
