Richland High School's junior football standout Arnold Mugerwa is making waves in the recruiting world, recently trimming his list of potential college destinations to a top five. At an impressive 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Mugerwa is a versatile athlete who has caught the eye of programs across the country.
His final five schools include Florida State, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Virginia State. But that's just the beginning—Mugerwa has racked up a staggering 16 NCAA Division I FBS offers, with additional interest from Cincinnati, Connecticut, Duke, James Madison, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina State, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Toledo, and Wake Forest. For a junior, that's a testament to his growing reputation on the gridiron.
On the field, Mugerwa has been a force for Richland. Named an all-state selection in 2025, he hauled in 54 passes for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns during that season alone. Over his three-year varsity career, he's amassed 108 receptions for 2,299 yards and 28 scores—numbers that put him in elite company among high school receivers. His 2024 campaign was equally impressive, with 31 catches for 702 yards and 12 touchdowns.
But Mugerwa isn't just a one-dimensional threat. On defense, he's been a ball-hawking free safety, recording 101 tackles (30 solo), three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries over three seasons. His ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball makes him a rare talent.
One of his standout performances came in a Week 5 win over Forest Hills during the 2025 season, where he caught six passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns. He also showed his defensive prowess in that game with two interceptions and 36 tackles.
Perhaps his most clutch moment came in the 2025 District 6 Class 2A title game against McCort-Carroll Catholic. In a tight 14-7 victory, Mugerwa scored both of his team's touchdowns—a 36-yard pick-six interception return and a 36-yard reception. That kind of big-game performance is exactly what college coaches are looking for.
As Mugerwa continues to develop, his combination of size, speed, and versatility makes him a prospect to watch. Whether he ends up in the Big Ten, ACC, or elsewhere, one thing is clear: this Richland star has a bright future ahead.
