Liverpool are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window, and according to reports from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona defender Jules Koundé has emerged as a top target. The Reds are reportedly preparing a £69 million (€80 million) bid for the France international, a figure that Barcelona would likely demand to even consider a sale.

For new manager Arne Slot, this would be a statement signing. Liverpool invested heavily last summer, including £29.5 million on Jeremie Frimpong following Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure, but right-back has remained a persistent problem. Both Frimpong and Conor Bradley have struggled with injuries, forcing Slot to experiment with Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones in the role—decisions that have drawn criticism from fans.

Koundé, who joined Barcelona from Sevilla for €55 million, has made 186 appearances for the Catalan club. While he built his reputation as a centre-back, he has become Barcelona's first-choice right-back, offering the kind of defensive versatility that top clubs crave. That adaptability is exactly what Liverpool need: greater reliability on the right side of defence, plus depth at centre-back. At 27, Koundé is entering his prime years, making him an ideal fit for a squad balancing immediate ambitions with long-term planning.

Barcelona's ongoing financial struggles are central to this story. Mundo Deportivo's report follows claims from Sport that the club is open to selling Koundé, Alejandro Balde, and Marc Casado to raise funds. The interest isn't limited to Liverpool, either. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal have all been linked, while Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed in October that City made contact last summer. Chelsea, meanwhile, have been tipped to launch an "aggressive" move for the versatile defender.

For Liverpool fans, this is a name to watch closely as the summer window approaches—a player who could finally solve their right-back puzzle while adding steel to the backline.
